Sally's Vocal Programme Cd's

It all started back when I was training, I would spend the hour each week with my singing teacher working on scales, exercises and songs trying to get the best sound out that I could, I’d walk away from that lesson trying franticly to remember the exercises I’d been given that week, knowing full well I’d have no chance of being able to recreate them at home as well as I could in the lesson with my teacher, mainly because I didn’t have the musical backing to be able to confidently work on the exercises given. So I began looking for vocal books with accompanying cd’s so that I could have scales to sing along to at home, and it was a godsend, or at least it half was. Most of the tracks either went far too high or too low for me, were too advanced for the level I was currently at or had very bad examples that demonstrated breathy or tight sounds. For the past couple of years I have found myself finding the need for them again when working with my students. They were finding the same – that they need something to practice with – even those who could accompany themselves had noticed how difficult it was to practice their given exercises without a backing track. But as a teacher I was worried about giving exercises and scales that were going too high or low for the singer, that didn’t give adequate examples and explanations of the exercise itself and that didn’t complement the personalised training I had planned.

It came to the point that if I was going to have the best for my students development I’d have to sit down and make my own exercise discs. It started with a basic technique disc but as I began planning I began to realise just how many different area’s I work on within my lessons, and so one basic technique disc turned into a wide collection of exercises which is has formulated into my specialised vocal programme all of which come with an accompanying booklet to talk you through each exercise. Not only are the discs aimed at separate levels of ability but also to each voice type, too many singers are struggling singing out of their range or ability which will not be anything but damaging, and in the first stages of warming up or beginning to develop technique the most important thing for a voice is to ensure that it is stretched gently and the greatest care is always taken. My vocal cds are available to buy as either digital download or physical copy in my online store or at your one to one lessons or vocal workshops. Here are the first releases in my vocal programme:

Daily Essentials: Warm Ups and Cool downs

A gentle and efficient warm up Cd, when warming up the voice is most susceptible to damage and stress, these exercises aim at hitting the 4 essential parts of a warm up, Respiration, Phonation, Articulation, and Resonance, to prepare the voice for the singing task ahead. The cool down is a gentle stretch to help return the larynx to its resting position. When we sing through the range our larynx rises and falls, sometimes it doesn’t always return to its resting position which can result in a sore tight throat, the cool down is essential in soothing and bringing your voice back to its natural position. The accompanying booklet and explains how to get the most out of your warm up as well as an ideal singing routine.

Technical Top Ups: Level One

In order to get the most out of our voice we need to isolate essential techniques and improve them individually, during singing we are expected of so much, so many different thought processes required from breathing to cord closure to pitching to dynamics even down to just remembering the lyrics, it’s been proven time and time again in my learning and my teaching that when each technique is isolated that the singer will comprehend, successfully develop and implement the chosen technique much faster than if they were to rush ahead and try and practice all the given exercises all at once, The technical top ups are designed to concentrate on problem areas in the voice safely and precisely, breaking each technique down making it easier to achieve.

Vocal SOS: TLC For Tired Voices

The worst thing in the world for a singer is a tired and tight voice. Whether it be from over singing, a cold or even vocal damage – the singers voice needs gentle and soothing exercises to help restore it to its happy self. This Cd focuses on some of my favourite exercises to help realign the stressed voice, helping it to relax and get moving in a more healthy way. The range is much more limited on this disc in order to help prevent any further straining.

Each of the Three Vocal Cd’s from my Vocal Programme come in three voice types; High Voice,  Mid Voice and Low Voice. If you are unsure of which voice type you may need feel free to contact me to discuss suitability.

“After just a couple of weeks of using Sally’s CD’s I could already notice a difference in how my voice sounded and how it had changed, just from doing regular exercises. I have quite a ‘breathy’ voice, but with the exercises I can now control my breath a lot better, and am more aware of what my body is doing when I sing. I am also able to reach notes I didn’t even think were in my range, and can sing with a bit more power. I would definitely recommend these to other singers, as they really will improve your voice.”
